By the appointment of Mr. Ball in place of the late Mr. ..., on which has already been gazetted on provisional appointment hitherto held by Mr. Ball is vacant. Mr. Ball, as an oral Interpreter in Court, and will very soon be perfectly competent also in Chinese. But what the Supreme Court most urgently requires, is an Interpreter for Swatow (Chunchew) dialect and "Amoy dialect". SUP. Li Hong Sui is an able and competent Interpreter in these two dialects and I beg therefore to recommend his being appointed to the post hitherto held by the late Mr. Ball.
